Objectives:
- Identify normal anatomy of the upper & lower extremity arterial system.
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
- Identify common abnormalities including the terms claudication, collateral flow, limb ischemia and how to assess for them.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate ultrasound system controls to optimize the 2D, color and Doppler image.
- Demonstrate understanding and competency in Scope of Practice for the Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional.
- Discuss the indications for and types of indirect testing methods for the upper & lower extremity.
- Demonstrate the proper patient preparation, protocol and positioning for imaging the Abdominal Aorta.
- Discuss the common types and findings associated with aneurysm and demonstrate proper scan technique with measurement.
- Perform a routine Duplex scan following SVU professional performance guidelines with proper documentation of Doppler waveforms in the Upper Extremity Arteries.
- Perform a routine Duplex scan following SVU professional performance guidelines with proper documentation of Doppler waveforms in the Aorta & Lower Extremity Arteries.
- Identify normal & abnormal color flow changes and Doppler waveform characteristics in the diagnosis of arterial disease.
- Demonstrate knowledge and confidence to perform and interpret direct and indirect upper and lower extremity arterial exams in a clinical setting.
