This ultrasound training course will cover vascular anatomy and hemodynamics and will enable the participant to understand the use of color and duplex ultrasound in diagnosing arterial or venous pathology. Doppler physics and instrumentation will also be covered in depth to teach you how to correctly interpret the information that you acquire during your scan. You will gain an actual working knowledge of how to optimize the Doppler instrumentation to improve your diagnostic and scanning ability. Our faculty will instruct you in the use of ultrasound in carotid, peripheral venous upper and lower extremities, peripheral arterial upper and lower extremities, Ankle Brachial Index and abdominal vasculature. You will be able to differentiate between normal and abnormal studies and you will learn valuable scanning tips and tricks to maximize the diagnostic value of your scan. As with all of our educational modules, live scanning sessions will be a part of the course, either in our education-based environment with live models or at your own facility.
Objectives:
- Demonstrate basic understanding of color and Doppler physics and the role of these principles in Duplex imaging of the vascular system.
- Identify normal anatomy of the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial and venous systems.
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial and venous anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
- Identify common variations in cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial and venous anatomy and how to recognize and identify vessels.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate ultrasound system controls to optimize the 2D, color, and Doppler image.
- Demonstrate understanding and competency in Scope of Practice for the Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional.
- Discuss the role of collateral circulation in extracranial cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disease.
- Discuss the indications for and types of indirect testing methods for the lower extremity.
- Demonstrate the proper patient preparation, protocol and positioning for cerebrovascular, arterial, and venous exams.
- Perform a routine Duplex scan following SVU professional performance guidelines with proper documentation of Doppler waveforms of the extracranial cerebrovascular arteries
- Perform a routine Duplex scan following SVU professional performance guidelines with proper documentation of Doppler waveforms in the upper & lower extremity veins.
- Perform a routine Duplex scan following SVU professional performance guidelines with proper documentation of Doppler waveforms in the lower extremity arteries
- Demonstrate knowledge and confidence to perform and interpret normal and abnormal cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, and venous exams in a clinical setting.
