Introduction to OB Gyn Ultrasound

This training course is designed for the professional looking to expand their knowledge of basic OB/GYN ultrasound.  It is well suited for sonographers who want to further develop their skill set, physicians who want to expand their scope of practice or nurse practitioners and midwives who desire a working knowledge of ultrasound.  Most students come with limited ultrasound experience and are looking for guidance in basic ultrasound principles and protocols.  This course encompasses both gravid and non-gravid pelvic exams.  Our faculty will instruct you in the use of proper technique to obtain diagnostic images for both transabdominal and transvaginal scanning.  This introductory course will expose you to normal anatomy and physiology as well as common pathology.  You will learn valuable scanning tips and tricks to maximize the diagnostic value of your exam.  As with all our educational modules, live scanning sessions will be part of your experience, either in our education-based environment with live models or at your own facility.  We are able to customize your training to focus on your needs using your equipment.  You will find the hands-on scanning experience invaluable to your ultrasound training. 

Objectives:

• Identify normal pelvic anatomy
• Recognize common anatomic variants
• Demonstrate an understanding of normal fetal growth and development
• Perform a basic non-gravid transabdominal and transvaginal exam
• Identify common GYN pathology
• Perform a basic 1^st trimester exam including proper measurements
• Perform a biophysical profile
• Confidently identify placental location
• Accurately measure cervical length
• Demonstrate the ability to accurately measure and date a pregnancy at any stage
• Use appropriate exam protocols to obtain clinically diagnostic images
• Understand basic equipment knobology for appropriate image optimization
• Leave with an increased confidence in your ability to perform routine OB/GYN exams
